Solution

Gas stations are large users of electricity and are charged for demand (measured as kW). This demand charge is a large part of their bill especially when they use a lot of power over a short period of time.

Using a 77kW solar power system integrated with a 300kWh/100kW BESS and an electricity rate of USD $0.16/kWh and 8 hours of sunlight, a gas station can save about $38,974 resulting a payback in only 4 years. The BESS can utilize power to a high efficiency and solve the problem of power demand and charges. Though peak demand is unpredictable, the power generated by solar panel could be optimally used to respond to the peak demand conditions.
