TROES Unveils Revolutionary Renewable Energy Transport Solution in Collaboration with SunTrain

Troes collaboration with SunTrain Project

[Toronto, ON, Canada – July 9, 2024] – TROES, a leading provider of advanced Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and microgrid solutions, has collaborated with SunTrain to introduce an innovative solution that leverages existing grid infrastructure to transport renewable energy via rail freight efficiently.

The challenge of transporting renewable energy from remote solar arrays, wind farms, and geothermal generators to densely populated areas has long hindered the widespread adoption of clean energy. Grid limitations, the lack of transmission access, and high infrastructure expansion costs have been significant barriers to scaling renewable energy.

Addressing these obstacles, TROES and SunTrain have developed a visionary solution: Delivering energy to consumers using a battery train carrying gigawatt hours of stored energy over the existing freight rail network. TROES has engineered a 120kW/768kWh BESS housed in a specially designed 20-foot container, capable of withstanding the rigorous conditions of rail transportation.

This solution showcases TROES’ advanced design and manufacturing capabilities, marking the first system of its kind to be approved by a Class I railroad in the USA. The collaboration between TROES and SunTrain significantly benefits the renewable energy sector, using TROES’ BESS to transport renewable energy to decommissioned power stations. This approach allows the existing distribution network to deliver renewable power without the need for costly new grid development, supporting emission-free energy transport.

“Our project in partnership with SunTrain is a significant milestone for TROES,” said Dennis dos Santos, CFO and SVP Corporate Development of TROES. “By integrating our advanced BESS technology into SunTrain’s innovative platform, we are enhancing the accessibility and reliability of renewable energy across regions previously hindered by transmission bottlenecks.”

SunTrain’s initiative not only addresses the logistical challenges of renewable energy distribution but also supports global efforts toward decarbonization and sustainable energy practices. By integrating advanced BESS technology, TROES and SunTrain are accelerating the transition towards a cleaner energy future.

“SunTrain’s ‘Trainsmission’ showcases our dedication to overcoming the obstacles hindering renewable energy development distribution. By partnering with visionaries like Troes and CATL, SunTrain is paving the way for a more efficient, cost-effective, and climate-friendly future.” – Christopher D. Smith // Founder & CTO.

About SunTrain:  SunTrain offers a solution to renewable energy intermittency and insufficient energy storage deployment by combining modern technology with an established railroad network to deliver low-cost, stored green energy to the marketplace. Our systems store renewable energy in 100-ton, iron-phosphate batteries integrated into railcars, which bypass the troubled electrical grid to deliver renewable energy directly to utilities and industries in regions with energy constraints and decarbonization mandates.

SunTrain is currently fundraising an additional $1.5 million to complete a $2 million strategic extension round. This funding will provide the necessary overhead capital to deliver a ~$125 million grid-interactive pilot project on behalf of a major utility.
